My Story

Creating characters and stories has been a thing for me since I was old enough to write. A vivid imagination that sometimes raised teacher's eyebrows, but ultimately created Mr Clopabomble.

That creativity relentlessly drew me towards the media. I loved TV, and the BBC was to me then, the centre of the universe. I worked first in the Sound Dept on all sorts of programmes including many huge series of the time like, Lovejoy, Bergerac and Miss Marple. As well as comedies like, Last of The Summer Wine and Only Fools and Horses. But recording actors and presenters narrating programmes also just cemented my desire to follow them and do the same. Being chosen to present a special live show for the BBC all over the country was a dream come true. Performing on some of the biggest stages in front of huge audiences was such a thrill and it then led me behind the microphone and into everyone's houses as a Television Announcer for 35 years and counting.

Contrary to what most people think, the job doesn't involve me simply watching telly, it involves writing. Summarising complicated programme plots and following marketing briefs, all in a few seconds, is what it's all about. Add to that delivering those words in the right way has since led me into the corporate voiceover world as well. Adverts, narration and audiobooks have inevitably brought me back to the suggestion of becoming an author, and Mr Clopabomble

A chance mention to my grandson of his name, and some experimenting with character voices, and the book finally came about. I love to make all my grandchildren laugh and they are really excited to see what adventures Mr Clopabomble gets up to.
